TEENAGE PARENTING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Teenage Parenting Assistance Program (TPAP) is a support service provided to students who are in need of assistance due to pregnancy and/or parenting. The program goal is to provide assistance in order to promote school attendance, promote high school graduation, and decrease the risk of student drop out. There are two support services available to the students: Pregnancy Related Services (PRS) and Life Skills for Student Parents (PEP).
Pregnancy Related Services (PRS) are support services, including Compensatory Education Home Instruction (CEHI) that a pregnant student receives during the pregnancy prenatal and postpartum periods. These services are provided to help students adjust academically, mentally, and physically and ultimately to continue their education. These services are offered provided that:
(a) The student is currently enrolled at a Mission CISD campus and is pregnant
(b) The student ‘s prenatal state prevents her from attending on campus classes and CEHI is recommended by a medical physician
(c) The student’s postpartum recovery period prevents her from attending on campus classes as recommended by a medical physician
Life Skills for Student Parents (PEP) are support services which serve students who are at risk of dropping out of school because they are parents and/or pregnant. This program is a support to the student by providing child care while and only if the student is enrolled at a Mission CISD campus and is a parent. By providing child care for the student, the student is able to attend school on a daily basis which in turn increases the possibility of the ultimate goal of graduating from high school with possible skills to advance to a college or university. Currently the following is offered:
(a) The student is currently enrolled at a Mission CISD campus and is a parent may qualify for child care services
(b) The student is currently enrolled at a Mission CISD campus, has applied for child care services and may need assistance with school transportation to and from daycare and school which is offered both before school and afterschool.
Program Referral Process
The student is welcome to apply for program services that have been discussed above. The student must come to Roosevelt Alternative School where the application is to be filled out.
The following steps must be taken:
a) An application/referral for PRS services needs to be filled out and the student must provide verification of pregnancy from her medical physician for eligibility.
b) An application/referral for Life Skills for Student Parents (PEP) needs to be filled out and the student is given a list that has been approved by Mission CISD for child care services
c) Other information as needed will be discussed regarding policies and procedures that must be followed by the student applicant.
